Connect your bank account

You can securely connect your bank account to your Gusto account using instant bank verification (IBV). We use a third party service called Plaid to instantly verify your bank account. We do not store your bank account’s username and password, and all of your bank credentials are encrypted.

Why connect your bank account?

Gusto sometimes needs to verify your account balance before you can submit payroll. By linking your bank account directly, it's less likely* we'll need to ask for a bank account screenshot and allows us to verify your bank account balance in real time.

Connect your bank account with IBV

  1. Go to the Settings section.
  2. Click the Payroll tab.
  3. Click Connect under "Bank Connection".
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Select your bank if it isn’t pre-selected for you.
  6. Enter your online bank account username.
  7. Enter your online bank account password.
  8. Answer any security questions, if needed.

If we are able to connect, the Bank Connection will show a status of Connected. You'll also have the option to Disconnect.

*A screenshot may still be requested if the account balance pulled is less than the debit total, if the balance is close to the debit total and there are pending transactions, or if we're experiencing technical difficulties connecting to the bank.
