Integrate with Calculate

Calculate offers a variety of services, from nitty-gritty bookkeeping to big-picture strategies and forecasting–they obsess over the numbers so you can make more calculated decisions. With Calculate’s “Hub” you can connect to your existing tools and software using a customizable platform that fully automates the financial process.

Gusto integrates with Calculate to push payroll data directly to a Google Sheet where you can calculate adjustments and load journal entries with ease. For complex or high-volume calculations, the Hub can create custom syncs that run daily, weekly, or monthly. 

Customers who join Gusto from Calculate will receive Gusto payroll free for their first three months.

Connect to Gusto from Calculate

Before you get started, make sure you’re registered for a Calculate Hub account. Don't forget to save your sign-in credentials, you’ll need them later.

  1. Head to the Hub homepage–this is where integrations are set up.
  2. Click Add New Integration.
  3. Scroll and hover over “Payroll & HR.”
  4. Click Gusto.
  5. If you’re already a Gusto user, click Connect to Gusto and proceed to the next step. If you’re new, click Create Gusto account.
    • If you’re creating a Gusto account: enter some basic information, choose the email you’d like to use for your Gusto account, and once you’re done you’ll need to check that email for the next steps to complete onboarding. Once you’ve fully onboarded in Gusto, proceed to the next step.
  6. Enter your Gusto sign-in credentials and click Sign In.
  7. Select the company you’d like to authorize and click Authorize.
    • You’ll be taken back to your Calculate home page.

Sync information

Once you’ve connected to Gusto, you’ll need to work within the Google Sheets Plugin. Only payroll data will be pulled, no employee or contractor profile information is synced.

  1. From your Homepage, click Get the Toolkit.
  2. Click Google Sheets Plugin.
    • You can install it there or you can install it for your whole GSuite organization if you're the domain admin (i.e. all users logged in under your GSuite account will not have to install it manually).
  3. In your open Google Sheet, click the Add-ons tab.
  4. Click Calculate Hub.
  5. Click Launch sidebar.
  6. From the sidebar, enter your Hub sign-in credentials and click Login
    • Unfortunately, password managers will not prompt this for you.
  7. Click the dropdown at the top of the sidebar, then select Gusto.
  8. Pick the company and click Connect.
  9. Click Add template to load the template sheet to this workbook.
  10. Use the dropdown under “Select function” to select a function.
  11. Click Download data to run a report.

The Hub uses Gusto data in a read-only manner. Payroll data is pulled to Google Sheets to be used in further calculations. 

Troubleshoot syncing issues

  • Google Sheets Plugin is not appearing in the Homepage menu
    • First, make sure you’re signed in to the correct Google account, then reload the page. The google account you’re using must match the google account linked to the Google Sheet Plugin.
  • Unable to connect the integration
    • Make sure you’ve verified your email. Unverified accounts are not able to access plugin automations. If you haven't gotten your verification email, or if you believe your account has been disabled due to login issues, please contact Calculate using the information below.
