This article is for admins who have integrated accounting software with Gusto and want to view, edit, or understand their account mappings.
After you integrate accounting software with Gusto, you can map your Gusto payroll categories to the matching accounts in your bookkeeping software.
You can view all of your current account mappings from your accounting integration settings.
To view your chart of account mappings:
Go to the App directory.
Click Connected apps.
Under your accounting integration, click Manage.
The Mapping tab includes your default, detailed, and consolidated mappings. Click on any tab to view your mappings.
By default, we show only unmapped accounts, so you can choose from all active accounts in your accounting software when mapping. If you’re not sure which accounts to map to, you can display all accounts.
To display all accounts:
Click Filter.
Uncheck the Display unmapped accounts only checkbox.
Click Apply.
This shows the suggested account types for each category.
You can update your account mappings at any time to match your bookkeeping needs.
To edit your chart of account mappings:
For each Gusto payroll category, select the matching account from your bookkeeping software.
We automatically save your progress as you go. A few tools can help you map accounts more quickly:
Map multiple items to the same account at once: Check the box next to each item you want to map. Click Actions and choose Edit account type. Type the account name to select it. Click Submit.
Show only unmapped categories: Next to Actions, click the filter icon. Choose Display unmapped accounts only, then click Apply.
Clear your selections: Uncheck the box next to an item, or click Clear all.
For more mapping information, check out your app’s Help Center article.

Tax adjustments
Taxes Receivable
Taxes that one or more agencies owe back to the company. This happens when an agency recognizes an overpayment and refunds it directly to the company. This typically results from tax corrections that reduce the company’s liability after it has already paid the taxes.
Asset Account
Taxes Payable
Taxes the company owes to agencies that we do not (or cannot) pay. This happens when we record a tax liability but do not debit for it or pay the agency (e.g., NY SDI).
Liability Account
Social Security Credit (COVID-19 Relief)
Credits associated with Emergency Leave Wages (no longer in effect). Learn more about tax credit mapping.
Asset Account
Note: We do not support Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable account types at this time because these require a Contact. Asset and Liability accounts do not require a Contact.
