Set up Homebase

Connect your Gusto account to Homebase to sync your time tracking information with payroll. Export your timesheets so you can save time as you prepare payroll.

Information that syncs:

Break penalties and tips do not sync at this time.

Connect Gusto to Homebase

  1. Sign in to Homebase.
  2. Select the Settings tab in the top navigation bar.
  3. Select Payroll from the navigation bar on the left.
  4. Click Connect next to Gusto.
    • You'll be redirected to Gusto.
  5. If you have multiple locations, make sure to match the Gusto address with the location address in each location.
    • Each location will need to be connected individually in settings.

Import your employees from Gusto

  1. Sign in to Homebase.
  2. Select the Team tab in the top navigation bar.
  3. Select Add in the upper right corner.
  4. Select Import from Gusto.
  5. Newly synced employees with emails will automatically get an invitation to join Homebase.
    • In the event that your employee list already exists in Homebase, having the correct employee information is critical to avoiding duplication.
    • Homebase does not import inactive employees from Gusto.

Export timesheets to Gusto

  1. Sign in to Homebase.
  2. Select the Timesheets tab in the top navigation bar.
  3. Set the date range in the upper left to the desired beginning and ending dates for the information you would like to export.
  4. Click Download in the upper right corner of the page.
  5. Select Payroll Summary for Gusto.
  6. Select Download Formatted for Gusto on the bottom right.
  7. Your Timesheets will now appear within the Run Payroll tab of your Gusto account.


Q: What if my employee works for multiple locations?

A: If you have multiple Homebase locations but only ONE Gusto account, hours will not properly send and the integration won't work correctly. 

Q: What if I’ve already exported my Timesheets from Homebase to Gusto but need to export an amendment?

A: You can export as many times as you want – each export overrides the last one, so if you make a mistake or add a Timecard late, you can export again.

Q: Why didn’t my employees export to Gusto?

A: If you already have a payroll ID from another provider on their profile the information won’t export. Make sure your employee’s info is up-to-date by visiting the Team tab, clicking the employee name, visit the Locations & PINs tab, update the payroll ID, then click Save Changes.

Q: Does Homebase support exporting contractors' hours?

A: Not at this time.

Q: Can timesheet hours be exported to Gusto even if some employees in Homebase do not have any hours?

A: Yes. The export will simply skip over these employees.

Q: What if I update or change my business address in my Gusto account?

A: If you update the location information on your Gusto account, it's advised to disconnect and reconnect the integration in Homebase to update the changes made.
