If you're enrolling in life insurance coverage, the carrier may ask you to provide Evidence of Insurability (EOI) with your application.
If you have benefits with Gusto, we’ll notify you of any EOI requirements and submit your EOI to the carrier if you provide it to us within 15 days after you completed your enrollment. After that, any requirements for the EOI will need to be handled between enrollee and the carrier directly.
A few common reasons why the carrier might request EOI:
You selected a coverage amount that exceeds the policy's Guaranteed Issue (the amount of money the policy pays out)
You're applying for coverage after your initial new hire eligibility window
You’d like to increase your coverage mid-year
The carriers will consider medical history while processing the enrollment application. After they review it, they’ll either approve or deny the application. Due to the sensitive information it contains, carriers will only communicate with you directly to request more information or share reasons for declining the coverage.
