Use this article to securely link your Gusto Retirement account to a financial management app and troubleshoot common syncing issues.
If you use a financial tracking app, like Wealthfront, NerdWallet, or Monarch Money, you can connect your Gusto Retirement account to view your retirement balances alongside your other finances.
To keep your information secure, we use a system-generated password—a unique password that limits third-party access to your actual Gusto sign-in credentials.
Your system-generated password is separate from the password you use to sign in to your Gusto retirement dashboard. Using it with a third-party app will not change or affect your regular Gusto sign-in.
Choose the path that matches how you signed in.
Sign in to Gusto and go to Benefits. Under Savings, find 401(k) and select View, then select Manage 401(k)
Sign in directly at the Gusto Retirement sign-in page.
Once you're in your 401(k) dashboard, follow these steps to find your system-generated password.
Click Settings, then Personal settings.
Select the Security tab and scroll to Financial app access.
Click View password.
Once you have your password, open your financial app and enter:
The email address you use to sign in to your Gusto Retirement account
The system-generated password (not your regular Gusto password)
Many popular financial apps can connect to Gusto Retirement, including:
Wealthfront
Empower
Simplifi by Quicken
NerdWallet
Rocket Money
eMoney Advisor
Intuit
Finserv
You Need a Budget (YNAB)
Morningstar
PocketGuard
Monarch Money
EveryDollar
Important: We cannot guarantee third-party syncing will work properly with all financial management apps, whether listed here or not.
If your app will not connect to your Gusto Retirement account, certain account types are not showing, or your balance does not match your retirement dashboard, try the steps below.
We recommend always using the system-generated password when connecting external apps.
If you recently changed the primary password for your Gusto account, your system-generated third-party password was also updated automatically, and you may need to sign back in using the newly generated password. To get the new password and reconnect, follow these steps.
Sign in to your retirement dashboard using one of these options:
Sign in to Gusto and go to Benefits. Under Savings, find 401(k) and select View, then select Manage 401(k)
Sign in directly at the Gusto Retirement sign-in page.
Go to Financial app access in your retirement dashboard to get the new password.
Sign in to your financial app again with the updated credentials.
When you connect your account, your financial app gets read-only access to your account details, balances, investments, and transactions. The app cannot make changes to your Gusto retirement account.
To review exactly what your app can see, sign in to your retirement account using your email address and the system-generated third-party password (not your regular Gusto password). Once you've reviewed the information, use the option that matches what you find:
If the information is incorrect: If any accounts are missing (for example, your Gusto IRA does not appear) or the details do not match your main dashboard, contact us for assistance.
If the information is correct: The issue is likely on the app's side. Reach out to your financial app's Customer support team for help. You can usually find their contact information on the company's website or in the App Support section of the App Store® or Google Play Store.
Keep these things in mind when you connect a third-party app:
If your app still will not link to your Gusto Retirement account after troubleshooting, we recommend contacting the app's support team directly for assistance.
If you connect your Gusto retirement account to a third-party financial app, the information we share with them may also be subject to the third-party's privacy policy. Gusto is not responsible for any issues arising from the privacy policies or practices of any of these apps. See our Privacy Policy for more information regarding how we protect your information.
