A passkey is a faster, safer way to sign in to Gusto. You use your face, your fingerprint, or a security key instead of a password.
You do not need a 2-step verification code either. Passkeys are designed to be phishing-resistant, so they only work on the real Gusto site.
To sign in without a passkey or fix other common sign-in issues, go to a different article.
A passkey lets you sign in with Face ID, Touch ID, a Windows Hello camera, or a security key. You do not type a password, and you do not need a 2-step verification code.
A passkey is designed to be phishing-resistant. It only works on the real Gusto site, and the secret part never leaves your device. When you use Face ID or Touch ID, your face or fingerprint data stays on your device. Gusto never sees it or stores it.
After you sign in with your password and 2-step verification code, Gusto may show a screen to set up a passkey. Select Set up passkey and follow your device's prompt.
Go to app.gusto.com.
Select Sign in with passkey.
Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your security key.
When you sign in with a passkey, you do not need a 2-step verification code. The passkey confirms it is you on its own. If you sign in without your passkey, for example on a shared computer, you still use your password and a 2-step verification code.
Set up a passkey on each device you use. Some devices also sync passkeys through iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or your password manager.
If you sign in on a new computer where you do not want to set up a passkey, you can scan the QR code to sign in with a passkey stored on your mobile device.
The mobile app does not support passkeys yet. Today, passkeys work when you sign in through a web browser. We will tell you when the mobile app supports them.
Try these steps in order:
Try again. If the passkey prompt closes or you see an error, select Sign in with passkey again. A second try usually works.
Check that this device has a passkey. Gusto saves passkeys on each device. If you set up your passkey on your phone, you may need to scan a QR code with that phone to sign in on a computer.
Update your browser. Passkeys work in recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox.
Sign in with your password instead. Select Use password, then enter your password and your 2-step verification code.

Sign in with your password and your 2-step verification code. Then add a new passkey on a device you still use. If you cannot sign in at all, contact us and we will help. We can remove the passkey from our side so you can set up a new one.
Select your name in the top-right corner, then select Settings.
On the My profile tab, find Security.
Select Passkeys. Gusto shows each device that has a passkey, plus the date you added it.
Remove a passkey if you stop using that device, or if you think someone else can use it.
Select your name in the top-right corner, then select Settings.
On the My profile tab, find Security, then select Passkeys.
Find the passkey you want to remove.
Select Remove, then confirm.
After you remove a passkey, that device cannot sign in with a passkey anymore. You can still sign in with your email and password.
