Gusto Retirement Pro gives you a centralized dashboard to manage your advisory clients' 401(k) plans.
From your dashboard, you can add new plans, track client assets, connect third-party data aggregators, and control which firm members have access to specific client accounts.
To get started, sign in to your 401(k) administrator dashboard through Gusto (Benefits > Active Benefits > 401(k) > Manage) or directly at the Gusto Retirement sign-in page.
You can invite clients to get started with a Gusto 401(k) plan directly from your dashboard.
From the main page of your dashboard, click Add a plan. Then choose how the new plan should be added based on your client's situation:
Start a new plan — Select this option if your client does not already have a 401(k) plan with any provider. To start plan setup, you need the following:
Company name
Employee count
Payroll provider
Primary contact's name and email address
Transfer an existing plan to Gusto Retirement — Choose this option if your client has a 401(k) plan with a provider other than Gusto Retirement. To start a plan conversion, you need:
The designated plan trustee's name and work email address
Company name
Their current retirement plan provider
Several documents about the client's current plan so we can make sure we can properly service their new one
Connect to an existing Gusto Retirement plan — If your client already has an existing Gusto 401(k), you only need their Employer Identification Number (EIN).
Once you have entered all the required client information, you can choose between two options:
Send invite — If you want your client to create a plan design on their own, you can send them an email invitation right away. From the invite, they will go to the online plan setup experience where they can choose the plan options that are right for their business.
They can also add any missing business or payroll details. Your Gusto Retirement Relationship Manager can provide information about how provisions work to help you make decisions about plan designs.
Design plan — If you prefer a more hands-on approach, the Design plan option lets you set plan details based on your recommendations. Your clients will still have the opportunity to make changes before anything is finalized. You will be guided through a flow that allows you to select the plan type, match formula, and eligibility requirements. You can also add business and payroll details.
Once you have selected your preferences, you can send the invite. Your client will then be able to review, change, and approve their plan.
After the plan is established, your client will be guided through an onboarding flow where they can set up important plan details, connect their payroll provider, and enter banking or credit information for billing. If you have been provided access, you may also complete these tasks on their behalf.
If your clients have questions about the onboarding process, share the new plan resources available in our help center. Sponsors can also connect with our employer onboarding support team for additional help during plan setup.
If you want to designate members of your accounting or advisory firm to manage your Gusto Retirement clients, you can add them to your firm directory.
To assign a firm member to a client account, follow these steps:
The owner of the firm's Gusto Retirement account can sign in through Gusto (Benefits > Active Benefits > 401(k) > Manage) or directly at the Gusto Retirement sign-in page.
Click on the firm's name in the main navigation to open the drop-down menu, then select Firm directory.
If the firm member is not yet added to the account, click Add a firm member on the right-hand side. Once added, edit the firm member by clicking on their name from your directory list, then click the gear icon.
Select Manage access, choose the client you want to add to that firm member's current roster, and click Save.
Remove a client from a firm member's list
To remove a client from a firm member, follow steps 1 – 3 above. Then, within the firm member's current roster, hover over the client you want to remove and select the minus button that appears next to the client name. Click Save.
Quarterly Asset Detail Reports give you visibility into your clients' plans and can help you support them with retirement and tax strategies. Reports are generally available within one week after the close of each quarter.
Download the quarterly asset detail report
To access your report, follow these steps:
Select Resource Library
If you’re accessing your account via the stand-alone Gusto Retirement login, you’ll first need to click your company name in the upper-right corner.
Click Reports, then select Download for the quarterly asset detail report you want to review.
What the report includes
The quarterly asset detail report will include a list of all your firm's clients and the funds that each client’s plan holds as of the last day of the quarter with the following fields:
Plan number
Plan name
Fund CUSIP value
Fund ticker value
Fund name
Market value
Effective date
Fund expense ratio (%)
This covers all your active clients with invested plan assets, the funds currently held in each plan, and the market values and expense ratios for each fund.
How to use the report
You can use this report to:
Review your clients' plan investments during quarterly or annual reviews
Support clients with retirement and tax strategies
Get a snapshot of fund holdings and expense ratios across your client book
Gusto Retirement Pro can connect with third-party data aggregators to help you view and manage your client book across recordkeepers. Connecting your Gusto Retirement client accounts to an aggregator gives you an overview of your clients' plan assets at the fund level, along with basic information like total eligible employees and plan participants.
Supported aggregators
Gusto Retirement currently provides a data feed to:
Retirement Plan Advisory Group (RPAG)
Fi360
Set up the integration
If you want to have your clients' Gusto Retirement data sync with an aggregator, follow these steps:
Contact your Gusto Retirement Relationship Manager to get started.
We will send you an authorization form for data sharing.
When the form is done, email it to [email protected].
You can expect our team to complete the integration within three business days. Once connected, your clients' plan trustees will get a notification on their dashboard and via email about the data-sharing arrangement.
When to expect data in the aggregator
Data will be compiled starting on the date the integration begins. However, the data will not be viewable in the aggregator until the second day of the following month.
For example, if your integration begins on March 15, your clients' data would be shared with the aggregator on April 2. The April feed would then contain the data compiled from the month of March.
