Integrate with MonkeyPod

MonkeyPod is an all-in-one business management platform for nonprofit organizations. It includes true nonprofit accounting with fully integrated CRM, email marketing, project management, and more. 

When you set up the Gusto and MonkeyPod integration, payroll and contractor payments are automatically imported into MonkeyPod and recorded in your organization’s financial records. Employee and contractor relationship records are also created automatically as needed.

Connect to Gusto from MonkeyPod

  1. Sign in to MonkeyPod. 
  2. Click your company name.
  3. Under “MonkeyPod Apps,” click Explore App Marketplace
  4. Scroll to the Gusto tile and click Install.
  5. Click Confirm.
  6. Click Finish Setup
  7. If you’re already a Gusto user, click Login to Existing Gusto Account. 
  8. Sign in to Gusto with your admin credentials. 
  9. Check the box next to each Gusto company that you authorize MonkeyPod to access.
  10. Click Authorize
  11. When you’re redirected to MonkeyPod, click Select an Option and choose the Gusto company that matches the MonkeyPod account you’re in. 
  12. Click Save Connection
  13. The next screen lists your accounts and whether they’re properly set up for payroll data syncing. If there’s red text under the account type, click Configure in Automated Bookkeeping
    • The “Automated Bookkeeping” page you’re sent to is where you can choose the default account for different transactions. 
    • Make a selection for your “Payroll: Bank Account,” “Payroll: Compensation,” “Payroll: Taxes,” and “Payroll: Liabilities.” 
    • Finish connecting to Gusto by scrolling to the top of the page and clicking your company name. Under “MonkeyPod Apps,” click Gusto
  14. Finally, indicate whether you want to print physical checks in MonkeyPod or from Gusto. 

Your Gusto and MonkeyPod accounts are now connected. In Gusto, MonkeyPod is listed in the App Directory. MonkeyPod will automatically import payrolls and contractor payments within 24 hours of when they’re processed in Gusto. Imported transactions are also automatically recorded in MonkeyPod.

Import historical transactions from Gusto to MonkeyPod

If you want to import previous payroll transactions or contractor payments from Gusto to MonkeyPod, follow the steps below. Note that MonkeyPod will not automatically do any bookkeeping on these historical imports, so it’s safe to import your entire history. Later, you can choose exactly which transactions you need to record. 

  1. In MonkeyPod, head to the Gusto section by clicking your company’s name in the upper panel and choosing Gusto
  2. Click Payroll History
  3. Click Optionally, you may import your historical payroll data.
    • Once the data is imported, it’s listed by payroll date in the “Payroll History” tab. 
  4. If you want MonkeyPod to record the transactions from a payroll, click the three dots for the payroll you want to record.  
    • Click Record transactions. Once complete, the payroll’s status in the left-most column changes to “Recorded.”

For future payrolls, MonkeyPod will automatically import payrolls and contractor payments within 24 hours of when they’re processed in Gusto. Transactions are automatically recorded in MonkeyPod when they’re imported.

Import troubleshooting: if you manually recorded a payroll transaction and then MonkeyPod imports and re-records it, simply delete the duplicate record. 

Categorize expense reimbursements

If you use Gusto to handle expense reimbursements, you’ll need to manually categorize them in MonkeyPod. Each time you run a payroll with expense reimbursements, follow the steps below to categorize and record them. 

  1. In MonkeyPod, head to the Gusto section by clicking your company’s name in the upper panel and choosing Gusto
  2. Go to the Uncategorized Reimbursements tab. 
  3. Under the “Uncategorized” column, click on a dollar amount to categorize it.
  4. Click Select an Account to choose the expense account.
  5. If you want to add additional details to the expense, click Assign a class, Tag it, etc. 
  6. Once you’ve categorized the expense, click Save

Disconnect your Gusto and MonkeyPod accounts

If you no longer want Gusto to send payroll and payment data to MonkeyPod, follow these steps.

  1. Sign in to MonkeyPod. 
  2. Click your company’s name in the upper panel and choose Explore App Marketplace
  3. Scroll to the Gusto tile and click Uninstall

Payroll and payment data will no longer be sent to MonkeyPod when you run payroll.
