This article is for employees who want to learn how Truework verifies their employment and income through Gusto.
Truework is an employment and income verification service for lenders, landlords, and background check companies. It helps HR teams save time by automating employee verification requests on behalf of the employer. As an employee, you can quickly and safely share your job and income information with verifiers for activities like buying a home or applying for a loan.
When you apply for a loan, job, or apartment, a verifier (like a bank or landlord) may ask for proof of your employment or income.
Without a service like Truework, you may need to share paystubs or ask your employer for an employment verification letter.
If a lender, property manager, or other party sends a verification request to Truework, here’s what happens:
Truework checks that the verifying party is real and has the proper authorization.
Truework assigns each verification a risk score based on the verifier’s reputation, the institution type, the IP address, and other fraud signals.
For low- or no-risk requests: Truework processes them automatically to guarantee no delays for the employee.
For requests with elevated risk: The verification needs to happen outside of Truework.
Q: How should my employer respond to a verification request from a verifier?
A: Your employer can tell the verifier to go to truework.com and click Start a verification. Once the verifier submits the request in Truework, Truework automatically starts the process. Truework may email you asking you to approve or deny the request.
Q: Is information shared through Truework secure?
A: Visit truework.com/security to learn about Truework’s security measures.
Q: What if I need to dispute anything on the report?
A: To dispute anything on the report, fill out Truework’s dispute form.
