After the first sync: check your demographic fields
If you selected additional fields to sync in step 10 above (e.g. employee department, job title, etc.) we recommend reviewing the Account demographics section in Culture Amp for duplicates after the first sync runs. If there were any fields with a different name in Gusto than in Culture Amp, they're added as a new demographic in Culture Amp. This can affect reporting if you track survey results by demographic groups.
Here’s how to check your demographics:
-
In Culture Amp, go to Settings.
-
Choose the Account demographics section.
- Review the list of demographics. If there were any fields with a different name in Gusto than in Culture Amp, they were added as a new demographic after your first sync.
- If a new demographic has been created, Culture Amp recommends you delete the old demographic. This can help prevent confusion about which field to use going forward. This will not impact any previous survey results or comparisons.
If you want to map a field in Gusto to a particular demographic in Culture Amp for your next survey, reach out to Culture Amp Support.

Troubleshoot syncing issues Duplicate employees in Culture Amp
You may see this error reason if an employee has a different email address listed in Gusto and Culture Amp. Update the employee’s email address in Culture Amp to match their primary Gusto email.
Sync blocked to protect employee privacy
If Culture Amp suspects that an employee’s personal info has been mixed up with another employee, they’ll block the automated daily sync and notify you via email. This is to prevent accidental access to another employee's private information, such as performance reviews.
If you confirm that the updated info was made in the correct Gusto employee profile, you have the option to override the block by running a manual sync: in Culture Amp, go to the Users page, click Import data, and choose Sync.
Investigate syncing issues with the import summary
If there are any issues with the integration data syncing, you can troubleshoot with Culture Amp’s import summary:
- Sign in to your Culture Amp admin account.
-
Go to Settings.
-
Click Import history.
- Choose your most recent import. You can review any errors associated with the import or run a manual sync to identify any problems.
