Integrate with Carta

Carta is an equity management solution to help companies and investors manage cap tables, valuations, investments, and equity plans. 

With the Gusto and Carta integration, employee and payroll data automatically syncs each day so Carta can alert you to make employee updates. You can also leverage Carta’s total compensation feature to automatically benchmark compensation, level employees, and access real-time employee attrition and retention insights.  

Connect to Gusto from Carta 

  1. Sign in to Carta.
  2. Click Company and choose Settings.
  3. Go to the Integrations section.
  4. Click Add integration
  5. Select Gusto.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Now you can either sign in to Gusto or create a new Gusto account for your company:  
    • If your company already uses Gusto: click the checkbox to agree to the integration terms and conditions. Click Next.
    • If your company doesn’t yet have a Gusto account: click Click here and set up your company account. Then return to these steps to finish connecting your accounts. 
  8. Choose a name for the integration—this will appear in your Carta Integrations section.
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Connect.
  11. Enter your Gusto admin credentials and click Sign In
  12. Review the Gusto account(s) you’re allowing Carta to access and click Authorize

Once the connection is made, you’ll see an “Authorization Successful” pop-up in Carta. Your employee and payroll data will begin syncing to Carta. You can view the integration status in the Integrations section in Carta. 

New hires 

When you hire someone, make sure to onboard them in both Gusto and Carta. Once both their accounts are set up, the integration will connect their Gusto and Carta profiles using their email address.

Dismissals

First, dismiss the employee in Gusto. The next time you sign in to Carta, you’ll be prompted to complete their pending termination event. 

Data syncing 

Carta automatically syncs data from Gusto every 24 hours. You can also run a manual sync anytime by following these steps: 

  1. Sign in to Carta.
  2. Click Company and choose Settings.
  3. Go to the Integrations section.
  4. Find the Gusto Integration row and click the three dots icon.
  5. Click Run

Once complete, the “Last Run” column will update. 

Troubleshoot syncing issues

If you’re experiencing issues with the integration, follow these steps to check the connection status: 

  1. Sign in to Carta.
  2. Click Company and choose Settings.
  3. Go to the Integrations section.
  4. Find the Gusto Integration row. Check the “Last Run” column for an error message.  
  5. If prompted, click the three dots icon and select Re-enter credentials. The integration requires current admin credentials to remain active.
