Administrators can manage their settings for the notification types below:
- Account emails
- Marketing emails
- Text messages
Your email preferences will only impact emails sent to you, and will not impact the emails sent to other admins on your account, or any of your team members.
Unless you change your settings, Gusto will send you all emails by default.
Change your account email settings -
Sign in to your admin account.
- Head to the Settings section.
- Click the Notifications tab.
- Under the “Account emails” headline, select whether you’d like to receive:
- All emails
- We’ll contact you frequently with information about your account—includes informational notifications where no action is required from you.
- Action required and critical emails
- We’ll contact you about day-to-day operations (e.g. employee timecards), and any critical information.
- Critical emails only
- We’ll contact you with only critical information (e.g. blocked payroll, risks to your account, and legally required messages).
- Custom—specify by topic what level of notifications you’d like for:
- Payroll
- Running payroll for employees or paying contractors.
- Finance and accounting
- Viewing payroll reports and integrations with accounting software.
- Tax and compliance
- Tax filings, workers' compensation, and compliance.
- HR and onboarding
- Onboarding, time, and performance tracking.
- Benefits
- Setup and management of employee and contractor benefits.
- Others
If you choose custom settings, and toggle back to a non-custom option, the custom settings previously entered will not save.
Change your marketing email settings Visit the subscription center to choose which emails you receive about future launches and special offers.

Unsubscribe Options
- I don’t want emails from my Gusto representative
- Opt-out of personal emails and recommendations from your dedicated Gusto representative. You can still reach out to the support team.
- I don’t want promotional emails from Gusto
- Opt-out of emails about new tools, features, and promos. This includes all subscriptions listed above. You’ll still get emails from your Gusto representative.
- I don’t want any commercial emails from Gusto
- Opt-out of all promotional emails from Gusto and your dedicated Gusto representative. You’ll still get emails about account changes and alerts.
Change your text (SMS) settings—includes info about the types of texts you may receive Unless you change your settings, Gusto won’t send any text messages. You can opt-in to receive promotional and account messages.

Sign in to your admin account.
- Head to the Settings section.
- Click the Notifications tab.
- Scroll to the “All text messages” headline and click edit next to Account information or Deals and promotions.
- Toggle to turn on or turn off the notification settings.
- Confirm your phone number if you need to.
- Click Save.
What kind of Gusto texts should I expect?
For now, we send texts when the actions below occur:
- Your bank account has been updated
- Your email has been updated
- Your phone number has been updated
- Your password was reset
- Your account has been locked
- 2-step verification has been enabled or disabled
