This article is for admins who want to manage their notification settings in Gusto.
You can update your settings for:
Account emails
Marketing emails
Text messages
We send all emails by default unless you change your preferences. Your email preferences only change the emails sent to you. They do not change the emails sent to other admins on your account.

Admins can view their notification settings at any time.
To view your notification settings:
On the top right, click the dropdown next to your name.
Click Settings.
Under Personal, click Notifications.
Click Edit to edit settings for:
Emails
Push notifications
Text messages
Voice calls
Admins can choose the type of account emails they want to get from Gusto.
To change your account email settings:
On the top right, click the dropdown next to your name.
Click Settings.
Under Personal, click Notifications.
Next to Emails, click Edit.
Select the type of emails you’d like to receive:
All emails
We send you frequent updates about your account. This includes informational notifications where no action is required.
Action required and critical emails
We send you updates about day-to-day operations like employee timecards and any critical information.
Critical emails only
We send you only critical information like blocked payroll, account risks, and legally required messages.
Custom. Specify by topic the level of notifications you want for:
Payroll
Running payroll for employees or paying contractors
Finance and accounting
Viewing payroll reports and integrations with accounting software
Tax and compliance
Tax filings, workers’ compensation, and compliance
HR and onboarding
Onboarding, time, and performance tracking
Benefits
Setup and management of employee and contractor benefits
Others
Changes to your account
Click Save.
Note: If you choose custom settings and switch back to a non-custom option, we do not save your custom settings.
If you’re an admin, you can choose which marketing emails you want to get from Gusto, or unsubscribe from all marketing emails. You can also manage these email settings by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of any marketing emails you’ve received.
To change your marketing email settings:
On the top right, click the dropdown next to your name.
Click Settings.
Under Personal, click Notifications.
Next to Emails, click Edit.
Under the Marketing emails headline, select the types of marketing emails you’d like to receive:
New features and updates
Product announcement and upcoming events
Offers and promotions
Seasonal promotions and upcoming product offers and savings
Feedback and surveys
Gusto sales representative communications
Emails about Gusto's plans, pricing, and new customer implementation
Click Save.
You can also toggle to unsubscribe from all marketing emails. If you unsubscribe from all, you’ll also stop getting any future marketing email categories.
To change your push notification settings:
On the top right, click the dropdown next to your name.
Click Settings.
Under Personal, click Notifications.
Next to Push notifications, click Edit.
Choose to receive both or none:
Account information: Notifications about account security, blocked payroll, and critical deadline reminders
Offers and promotions: Notifications about upcoming product offers and savings
Click Save.
Admins can choose whether to receive text messages from Gusto. By default, we do not send any text messages. You can opt in to receive promotional messages or account updates.
To change your text settings:
On the top right, click the dropdown next to your name.
Click Settings.
Under Personal, click Notifications.
Next to Text messages, click Edit.
Select whether you’d like to receive texts with Account information and/or Offers and promotions.
Add your phone number.
Click Save.
By entering your phone number and saving changes, you agree to receive texts from Gusto at the phone number provided. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message/data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out. Privacy policy
Types of Gusto texts you may receive
For now, we send texts when the following actions occur:
You updated your bank account
You updated your email
You updated your phone number
You reset your password
We locked your account
You turned 2-step verification on or off
Admins can choose to get voice calls about upcoming product offers and savings. This voice comes from an AI agent.
To opt in to voice calls:
On the top right, click the dropdown next to your name.
Click Settings.
Under Personal, click Notifications.
Next to Voice calls, click Edit.
Select Offers and promotions from AI.
Add your phone number.
Click Save.
By entering your phone number and saving changes, you agree to receive marketing calls from Gusto at the number provided, including those made with automated or AI technology.
