This article is for admins who want to connect Bonusly to Gusto to sync employee records.

When you connect Gusto to Bonusly, we sync your employee records, reducing admin work.
To access Gusto and other human resources information systems (HRIS) or single-sign-on integrations, you need to be on the Bonusly Pro plan.
Note: Customers who join Gusto from Bonusly will receive Gusto payroll free for the first 3 months.
Before you connect your accounts, make sure you’re signed in to both Gusto and Bonusly. You need to be an admin in Gusto and either a global or tech admin in Bonusly.
To connect your Bonusly and Gusto accounts:
In Bonusly, from the left menu, click Integrations.
Scroll to the Get in sync headline, locate Gusto, and click the tile.
If you do not have a Gusto account yet, click Click here to start one.
Enter your basic information and click Create Gusto Account. On the Gusto integration page, click the Claim your Gusto account link. Check your email for the next steps to complete Gusto onboarding.
If you already have an account, or once yours is set up, click Authorize.
Enter your Gusto sign-in credentials and click Sign In.
Click Authorize again.
Once connected, review the default integration settings. Make sure Auto Activate is set to No for now. Otherwise, all Gusto employees will be activated in Bonusly right away. Complete the remaining initial setup manually first, then automate the process.
If there's no timestamp for the last synced date, click Refresh from Gusto now to confirm that employee information was pulled from Gusto.
Sync Gusto data to Bonusly manually if you want to review employee information before launching Bonusly to your team.
To sync employee information manually:
From the left menu, click Users.
Click Imported Users.
This is a holding area where you can review information before it’s sent to Bonusly.
Users here are not yet activated in Bonusly.
Click Configure Activation Rules.
Check the boxes for the employee conditions you want to sync to Bonusly.
When you’re ready to send Bonusly invitation emails, select the employees you’d like to activate and click Activate Selected.
Once activated, employees will appear in the Manage section.
When you turn on Auto Activate, any new employee added to Gusto is automatically added to Bonusly. Most customers turn on Auto Activate once they’re ready to roll out Bonusly to the whole company. By default, Auto Activate is off.
To turn on Auto Activate:
Go to your Gusto integration page in Bonusly.
Click Edit.
Check the box labeled Automatically Activate?
Click Save.
Once a night, all new employees in Gusto who match your Activation Rules (from step 3 of the manual sync flow) will be automatically added to Bonusly. Any changes to applicable employee information will also sync to Bonusly.
If you dismiss an employee in Gusto, they’ll be deactivated in Bonusly after their dismissal date.
If you have issues syncing employees, use the solutions below.
Employees are missing from the “Imported Users” page
Go to Gusto integration settings and click Refresh from Gusto now. Wait a few minutes, then check the Imported Users page.
“Could not fetch company information” error
This means you’re not a Gusto admin or a Bonusly admin with global or tech permissions. Try again with the correct permissions, or ask a colleague who has access.
