The following is imported from Greenhouse:
- First name
- Last name
- Email
- Phone
- Custom fields (e.g. start date)
- See the “Custom fields” headline below for more information

You must have "Site Admin" and "Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials" permissions in Greenhouse to proceed.
- Sign in to your Gusto admin account.
- Go to the App directory.
- Click Hiring from the integration menu.
- Click Greenhouse.
- Click Connect.
- To obtain an API key from Greenhouse, click here to navigate directly to Greenhouse > Configure > Dev Center > API Credential Management.
- Click Create New API Key.
- In the popup, select Harvest as the type.
- Skip the “Partner” field.
- Give your API Key a name (e.g. Gusto) in the "Description" field.

- Click I have stored the API key.
- Click the Select All checkbox under "Manage Permissions."
- Click Save.
- Copy the API key into Gusto.
- Click Continue to setup.
Your Greenhouse and Gusto accounts are now connected. You can view integration details in the About tab of the integration in your Gusto account.
Sync information from Greenhouse to Gusto
Once the integration is active, you can start importing candidates to hire to your team in Gusto.
To keep this integration fast, we do not include rejected candidates or candidates that have not been updated recently. If you’re not seeing a candidate, make sure they’ve had a recent update in Greenhouse.
- Go to the Hiring section.
- Click Import.
- Indicate whether the candidate should be imported as an employee or contractor.
- For Gusto customers on the Plus or Premium plan: indicate whether you want to send an offer letter.
- Click Continue.
- Complete any remaining information needed for the new hire.
- Greenhouse will pre-populate some of this information for you.
- Interview, scorecard, and notes will not transfer.
- Click Save & continue.
All that’s left is to add the employee to payroll.
Include candidate start dates in syncing
The integration supports a sync for start date when it's configured as a custom field. To import a candidate's start date, the field name in Greenhouse must be "start_date" with a "date" value type. Additional custom fields are not supported at this time.
