About verifications
Employment or income verification is often requested as part of the application process for loans, credit, leases, government assistance, or for another permissible purpose under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Why automated verification
Automated verification is available 24/7, can help improve opportunities for employees and contractors, and can help reduce the risk of manual errors when responding to these requests.
It saves the employer time from manually pulling employee or contractor information and sending it to their lenders, creditors, or government agencies. For your team members, faster verifications can mean faster access to the things they need and a lower chance of you getting stuck in the middle of their application process.
The Work Number follows the law and only shares data with approved lenders or agencies, using the highest privacy standards.
How The Work Number protects data privacy and security
Credentialed verifiers must obtain consent from your employees and contractors to request, access, and use employment and income information from The Work Number when they apply for a loan, lease, credit, or government benefit. Data can only be accessed by credentialed verifiers with auditable and permissible purposes as governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The Work Number is governed by the FCRA and uses the latest security controls and certifications to keep data safe for more than 3 million employers of all sizes and industries.
Who can request employment and income information
Only credentialed verifiers such as lenders, creditors, or government agencies can request employment and income information from The Work Number.
The information provided generally can be proof of employment and/or income, such as salary or wage information, depending on the request.
Not every lender uses The Work Number. If the lender or verifier does not use The Work Number, or if your company has opted out, your employees or contractors may ask you for support with verifications directly. This may include:
