Use this article to learn how to transfer funds between two Gusto 401(k) accounts so you can consolidate your assets and investment strategies.
Before you start the rollover, make sure you meet both of these requirements.
You’re actively employed by an employer offering a 401(k) plan with Gusto Retirement and are eligible to take a distribution from the other 401(k) plan
Your accounts are merged so you can see both 401(k) accounts under the same sign-in
If you have separate sign-ins for your Gusto 401(k) accounts, contact our Participant Retirement Care team to have them merged. To verify your identity, include the following information.
Your Gusto Retirement account IDs (for both plans if available)
The email address you would like as your primary sign-in
Whether the companies sponsoring the 401(k) accounts are related business entities (like a parent company and subsidiaries), if known
Once your accounts are merged, choose the path that matches how you signed in, then follow the steps to roll over your funds.
Sign in to Gusto and go to Benefits. Under Savings, find 401(k) and select View. Select Manage 401(k).
Select the plan you want to move funds out of from the left menu of your dashboard.
Look for the banner that says Next steps for your 401(k) and select View options. If you do not see the banner, go to the Move money tab and select Take money out. Under See my options, select Transfer an account.
Confirm your personal information.
On the next screen, select Roll your funds into another Guideline account.
Choose your other Gusto 401(k) plan from the dropdown.

Since this is a Gusto 401(k)-to-Gusto 401(k) rollover, we treat it as an in-kind transfer — no investments are liquidated. The rollover typically takes 3 – 5 business days to process.
