CSV upload feature

Use the CSV upload feature to upload your employees' hours and earnings all at once for regular payroll runs.

CSV template guidelines

The only required columns are:

  • First name
  • Last name

When you download the Gusto template your employees' names will be pre populated. 

If you create your own template:

  • All name fields must be filled out
  • Columns can be in any order

During the CSV upload:

  • If there is a zero, a zero will be populated in payroll.
  • If there is a blank nothing will be populated.
    • You must enter a zero to delete a value, a blank field will simply remain as is.
  • You can upload multiple CSVs and the columns can be different each upload.
    • For example: You could upload a CSV with everybody's hours, another with sick and vacation time, and a third with reimbursements.
  • Multiple pay rates are supported.

The CSV upload feature is not available for off-cycle or bonus payrolls.

CSV fields

  • First name (mandatory)
  • Last name (mandatory)
  • Title
    • This is only mandatory for employees with multiple pay rates. If uploading your own CSV file, the job titles entered must match the job titles listed in the employee’s Gusto profile and be entered in separate rows.

  • Overtime hours
  • Double overtime hours
