Paid Family Leave or Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFL or PFML)

PFL and PFML are benefits that currently exist in several states to give partial pay to employees for their time off work taken for qualified family leave or medical leave.

PFL/PFML coverage and claims are exclusively handled through the state agencies. Gusto cannot advise on the amount of coverage an employee may or may not receive from the state. If you need to reduce your employee’s salary while they are on PFL/PFML you can do so in their employee profile by scheduling a compensation change.

Colorado Starting January 1, 2023. Benefits will begin to be available on January 1, 2024.
Connecticut  Started January 1, 2021. Benefits do not pay out until 2022.
Massachusetts Started in 2019. Benefits do not payout until 2021.
