Manager permission types

Manager permissions are available to Complete and Concierge plan customers—admins can upgrade their Gusto plan at any time. 

A manager's permissions dictate what they're able to see and do in Gusto within their direct and indirect reports' profiles.

Before updating your manager permissions, read below for more detail about the access you'll be granting.

Information Types

Managers will have access to two primary types of information: Basic Employee Information as well as Compensation and Work History.

The type of information included in each of these categories and the information managers won't see can be found below:

*Information marked with an asterick can be edited if managers have 'Editable and Viewable' permissions.

Permission Types

Permission Type

Description

Hidden

Choose "Hidden" to hide all information from your managers.

  • If the Coworker Directory feature is turned on, general information (ie. birthday, title, and join date) will show for the whole company. 

Viewable

Choose "Viewable" to allow managers to view information about their direct reports and extended team. 

  • If the Coworker Directory feature is turned on, managers have visibility into both their team and all other employees' general information (ie. birthday, title, and join date) at the company.

Editable and Viewable

Choose “Editable and viewable” to allow managers to edit information about their direct reports and extended team. We’ll notify you when a manager makes changes.

  • If the Coworker Directory feature is turned on, managers can view and edit their team's information and view-only all other employees' general information (ie. birthday, title, and join date) at the company. 
  • Fields that can be edited by managers are marked by astericks in the "Information Types" table above.
