Consider these requirements when you do business in new states and hire new employees.
To follow compliance rules:
Fill out employee onboarding forms.
Report new hires to the state.
You need to report new hires to the state where they work. The state uses this info to track debts like child support.
You usually need to file this report within 20 days of the hire date.
We can file this report for you if you select the option when adding an employee.
Get workers’ compensation insurance.
Most states require this insurance. We can help you get it. It covers employee injuries or illnesses that happen at work and provides benefits to employers and employees.
You can get it through:
A commercial carrier
Your state’s insurance program
Display required workplace posters.
You must post certain labor law posters in your workplace in a conspicuous place where employees and applicants for employment can see them. A poster must be displayed at all locations even if there are no eligible employees. Use the Department of Labor’s Poster Advisor to find what you need.
We offer a labor law poster subscription. This helps you stay compliant for both physical and remote locations.
You can download free posters or buy them online from other sellers like the Labor Law Poster Store.
Follow labor laws.
Learn the employment laws that apply to your business, like:
Minimum wage rules
Wage garnishments (including responding to Verification of Employment requests from child support agencies)
Termination policies (including the requirement to report terminations of employees with child support orders as soon as possible)
Contractor classification
The Department of Labor’s Employer Guide has many of these details.
The Small Business Administration also offers a 10-step guide for starting a business. It includes everything from writing a business plan to applying for licenses and permits.
Offer health insurance (optional).
If you offer health insurance, follow the Affordable Care Act (ACA) regulations.
If we manage your benefits, we help you stay compliant by:
Handling pre-tax payroll deductions
Providing 1095-C forms (when required)
Sharing the ACA Marketplace Notice with new hires
Storing the Section 125 document in your account
Keeping you aligned with your current policies and carrier
