The process for updating your name depends on your employment status with the company that sponsors your Gusto 401(k).
If you're currently employed, you cannot change your name directly in Gusto Retirement. Instead, it must be updated within your company’s payroll dashboard.
To request a name change, follow these steps:
Contact your company’s retirement administrator or HR department to request that your name be updated in payroll.
Once your name is updated in payroll, contact our participant support team to notify us of the change so we can update it in the 401(k) system.
If you are no longer employed by the company that sponsored your Gusto 401(k), you'll need to provide supporting documentation so we can make the name change.
Documents we'll need:
An up-to-date color copy of a government-issued ID (a driver's license or state ID card is preferred, but a passport is also acceptable)
If you were recently married and your ID has not yet been updated, a copy of your marriage certificate
To submit your documents:

Contact our participant support team to inform us of the uploaded documents and state your requested name change. To expedite your request, include your Gusto Retirement account ID for verification purposes.
Important: Our team is not automatically notified when you upload a document. You must contact us to let us know once this is complete, so we can move forward with your request.
