As a US employee or contractor, you'll get different types of notifications from Gusto—some notifications can be customized, and some cannot.
Account-specific emails (cannot customize)
You'll get all account-specific emails—for now, you cannot customize or turn these off.
These emails will go to your personal email, unless you’ve added a work email in Gusto. Learn more below.

Push notifications
Text messages (customizable)
We’ll send emails to your personal email, unless you’ve added a work email in Gusto. At this time, you cannot change which email address is used for specific notifications, and account emails cannot be turned off.
You can change your personal email address (or password) at any time.
If you're not getting emails, check your spam folder.
If your work email needs to be updated, contact your admin so they can change it.

The push notification settings above do not control biometric approval pushes for sensitive actions (like updating your direct deposit). Those pushes are always sent to eligible employees and cannot be turned off in Gusto.
To receive them on your device, make sure push notifications are turned on for the Gusto mobile app at the operating system level. If a push doesn't arrive, you can switch to SMS verification on the same screen. Learn more in Approving secure changes with biometric authentication.
Unless you opt in for account and promotional messages, we won’t text you. Currently, we send texts when:

To change your text settings:
In the left menu at the bottom, click Settings.

Next to Text messages, click Edit.
Check, or uncheck, the boxes next to Account information or Offers and promotions.
Confirm or update your phone number.
Click Save.

To opt in to voice calls:
On the top right, click the dropdown next to your name.
Click Settings.
Under Personal, click Notifications.
Next to Voice calls, click Edit.

Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message/data rates may apply. Opt out in Settings or by contacting our support team. Privacy policy.
Gusto sends you a payday email on the day you get paid. If you’d like, you can hide your pay amount so it does not show up in the email.
To hide your pay amount in your payday email:
In the left menu at the bottom, click Settings.
Go to Privacy.
Next to Payday email, click Edit.
Choose Pay hidden.
Click Save.
Note: Company admins can set payday emails to private for the whole team, but not specific people.
