View and update Form W-4 (withholding elections)

Employees can learn how to sign, view, and update their Form W-4 (tax elections). Admins can learn more about viewing, storing, and retaining past W-4s in order to remain compliant. Click the applicable dropdowns below to learn more.

For employees

Withholding is the amount of federal income tax withheld from your paycheck. The amount of income tax your employer withholds from your regular pay depends on two things:

For employers and admins

Gusto stores the only most recent version of each employee's Federal W-4. If an employee's personal data or withholding info changes, Gusto automatically updates their W-4 and prompts the employee to sign it. The previous version is not stored.
