This article is for admins on the Plus or Premium plan who want to set up, request, and review real-time feedback for their team.
Our real-time feedback feature lets your team request and give feedback to each other anytime. If you do not have access to this feature, you can upgrade your plan.
Real-time feedback works differently depending on your role. Here’s what each role can do:
Admins, managers, employees, and US contractors can request feedback from any employee at the company.
Admins can request feedback for any team member at the company.
Managers can request feedback for themselves and their direct reports.
Employees and US contractors can request feedback for themselves.
At this time, non-US contractors cannot request or get feedback.
Managers and team members respond to feedback requests.
Everyone can track feedback activity.
Admins can view and track all outstanding feedback at the company.
Managers can view and track the feedback their direct reports give and receive.
Employees and US contractors can view feedback that others have shared with them.
Use feedback when completing performance reviews.
Reviewers completing performance reviews and employees writing self-evaluations can use past feedback as a reference while completing their reviews.
Use your feedback dashboard to track your team’s real-time feedback activity.
To view your feedback dashboard:
Go to People.
Click the Performance tab.
Click Go to real-time feedback.
Click Learn more to get an overview of how real-time feedback works in Gusto. You can also click Take a video walkthrough of the feature to watch it in action.
The dashboard shows feedback activity for the last 3 months. Toggle to 1M, 6M, 1Y, or All to change the timeframe.
Scroll below the dashboard to find all team members’ received, given, and requested feedback.
Custom feedback prompts give managers and employees a suggested question to use when requesting feedback. You can turn prompts on or off at any time.
To edit your custom feedback prompt settings:
Go to People.
Click the Performance tab.
Click Go to real-time feedback.
Click the Settings tab.
Toggle to turn on or turn off custom feedback prompts.
If you’re turning on prompts: Set two prompts—one that appears for managers when requesting feedback for a direct report, and another that appears for employees when requesting feedback for themselves.
The prompts are suggestions, not requirements. Managers and employees can still enter a different question when requesting feedback.
If you’re turning off prompts: Employees and managers will enter their own feedback questions.
Click Save to update your settings.

Check the box to share the feedback with the team member. Uncheck the box if you do not want the team member to see the feedback.
If you do not share the feedback, only their manager and admins can view it.
Either confirm the existing custom question prompt (if an admin set up custom prompts) or enter a new prompt about what you’d like feedback on.
Click Request feedback.
You’ll get the feedback after the person submits it. If someone declines the request, we’ll let you know.
