Add dental, vision, life, or disability insurance (for admins)

If your company already offers medical insurance with Gusto as your broker, you can add dental, vision, life, or disability insurance, right in Gusto. You can add new lines of coverage at any time, except within three months of your medical plan’s renewal. If your medical plans renew within the next three months, you can add new coverage during renewal.

You can add a 401(k), commuter benefits, or external payroll deductions at any time.

Coverage for a new plan will begin on the first of the month, 2–3 months after you submit your company application in Gusto. You’ll see the soonest start date when you review quotes in Gusto.

To see plans and pricing for dental vision, life, or disability benefits:

  1. Sign in to Gusto.

  2. Go to Benefits.

  3. Find the benefit you'd like to add. If you do not see it, scroll down to All benefits and click Show more health benefits.

  4. Next to the benefit you’d like to add, click Set up.

  5. If you do not currently offer this benefit, click No and then Continue.

    • If you do currently offer this benefit through another broker, but want to switch to Gusto, click Yes and then Continue. For more help with switching to Gusto, go to Transfer your company's benefits to Gusto.

  6. You’ll be shown each available line of coverage. Find the type of benefit you’d like to offer and click Add Plan.

  7. Review the plan options and premiums.

    • Waiting period: Make sure this matches the waiting period for your medical benefits. To find your company’s waiting period for medical benefits, go to Benefits and click Medical.

    • Company contribution: To change this, go to Your company information, click edit. Life and disability plans are non-voluntary, which means the company covers 100% of the premiums and all eligible employees are enrolled.

    • Cost to company: This is the average monthly cost to the company per eligible employee.

    • Click View full details to review the Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) for each plan.

  8. Once you decide on a plan, click Add this plan.

  9. Click Save & continue.

  10. Repeat for any other available lines of coverage you’d like to add.

  11. Once you select your plan offerings, click Sign Forms.

  12. Click Sign Form beside each document listed. You can review your plans on the next page before submitting.

  13. Click Continue.

  14. Review the plan selections, coverage start date, and the employees who will be eligible to enroll.

  15. Click Confirm & Submit.

You can track the status of your application and employee enrollment by signing in to Gusto and going to Benefits.

After we review your application, we’ll email you with your open enrollment dates. When it’s time for your team to enroll, we’ll email them to let them know.
