Important: Your employer runs payroll and sets your pay schedule, so they are your fastest answer for some questions. Contact them first about:
When you will be paid or your pay schedule
How much you will be paid or why an amount looks different than expected
Specific amounts on your paystub, like a bonus, a benefit deduction, or a tax withholding
Paper check delivery
We can help with technical issues like updating your bank account or troubleshooting a missing direct deposit after payday.
Pro tip: Even if you’re no longer with your company, you can still sign in to Gusto to view your past paystubs and payment history. To keep access after you leave, add a personal email address to your profile before your last day. Go to this article to learn how to update your email.
If you’re an admin: Learn how to view past payments here. If you’re a US contractor: Learn how to view payments made to you here. If you’re a non-US contractor: Learn how to view your payment history here.
The pay tracker shows the real-time status of your upcoming payments.
You can see:
When your employer submits payroll
Your estimated payday (which may change if your employer submits payroll earlier or later than planned)
Your company’s direct deposit speed
The final payment method and bank accounts after payroll is processed
Whether you need to update your bank information or contact your employer
On payday, your money may arrive in your bank account anytime during the business day, up to 5 pm local time. Timing depends on your bank.
Important: We do not send emails or notifications for payday updates before payday. To check your pay status, sign in to your Gusto account or the Gusto mobile app.
Even if you set up direct deposit, your employer can still pay you by check. We update your pay tracker with the final payment method once payroll is processed. If you are paid by check, your employer is responsible for delivering it.
The last four digits of the bank account used for payment appear at the top of your paystub. To change how you get paid, or to edit or add a bank account, go to this article.

To view your pay tracker in the Gusto mobile app, follow these steps.
Open the Gusto mobile app and sign in.
Look at the top of the Home page for your next scheduled payday.
Tap Track paycheck status for details.
Here is what each status means.
Status
Meaning
Tracking
We estimated your payday based on your company’s pay schedule.
Status unknown
We do not have confirmation of your payday yet. Your employer can give you the most accurate update on when payroll will be submitted.
Pay processing
Payroll is processed, and funds are on the way.
Payday today
Today is your check date. Funds should arrive by 5 pm local time. Some banks may take until 10 pm to make funds available.
Updated date
Payroll details changed, which may affect your payday. Contact your employer for details.
We use your preferred payment method. You can edit your payment method before payroll starts processing. Once payroll begins, we lock the payment method.
We update the payment method section with the final method and destination. Click Review payment preferences to view your pay settings in your profile.
Check payment
If your pay tracker shows check payment, your employer will give you a paper check. Contact your employer for details.
Direct deposit
If your pay tracker shows direct deposit, your pay will go to your selected bank accounts by the end of payday. Timing depends on your bank. Find more information on updating your bank account here.
Important: This feature is only available in the Gusto mobile app. You cannot view paycheck estimates in your web browser.
The paycheck estimate shows an estimated amount of your next paycheck before payday. It may appear up to four business days before payday. The estimate disappears on payday, when your official paystub is available.
To view your paycheck estimate, follow these steps.
Sign in to the Gusto mobile app.
Tap Upcoming Paychecks in the Payment Tracker.
Select Show paycheck estimate.
You may not see this option if:
The payroll was canceled or reversed
Today is payday—view your official paystub instead
Your employer updated payroll settings
The paycheck estimate is not final and may change before payday. If the final amount on your paystub looks wrong, contact your employer—they can explain how your pay was calculated.
Your pay date depends on when your employer sends your payroll through Gusto. Your employer will always be the best first resource for questions about your pay. We cannot answer questions about when you will be paid, how much you will be paid, or why a payment looks different than expected. We can help with technical issues, like updating your bank account or troubleshooting a missing direct deposit after payday.
Non-US (international) contractors: If you have payment issues, ask your employer to message us through their Gusto account.
Your employer submits payroll to Gusto
Gusto sends direct deposit payments electronically to your bank
You get an email from Gusto on payday
Your paystub shows up in your account (learn where you can find them in Gusto in this article)
Banks have until 5 PM local time to put money in your account
Important: Each company has different payment speeds. Ask your employer about your specific pay date. Gusto cannot answer questions about payments until your actual payday.
Your employer is responsible for giving you or sending you your paper check. Check your paystub in Gusto to see if you’re being paid by direct deposit or check.
If you do not see money in your account on payday (allow until 5pm local time), or you believe there’s a delay, follow these steps:
Make sure you’re signed in to the right Gusto profile. If you have multiple accounts, try switching to a different one.
See if you’re set up for direct deposit in your profile.
Note: Even if you have direct deposit set up, your employer can still choose to pay you by check.
Look at your paystub in Gusto to see if you’re getting paid by direct deposit or check.
If it says "check," your employer should give you a paper check. The money will not appear in your bank if you’re paid by check. Your employer is responsible for delivering your check.
Make sure your bank details are correct:
Look for the test payment:
Gusto sends a $0.01 test payment when you add bank info
You should see this within 1-2 business days
If you do not see it, your bank info might be wrong
If your bank info is wrong and we received a bank error when trying to deposit funds:
We’ll email you to let you know and send reminders every 3 business days. If nothing is fixed within 12 business days, your pay will go back to your company’s bank account.
We’ll automatically try to resend the payment when you:
Update your existing bank information, or;
Fully remove your old bank account and add a new one
If your bank info is wrong and we did not get an error trying to deposit funds:
Banks can take up to three business days after the check date to report an error. We need to wait for this response before we can help fix the issue.
After three business days, if you still need help, message us from the section of your account.
If no error is reported after three business days, we can share the ACH Trace ID. You can give this ID to your bank to help track and reconcile the payment.
If you recently changed banks:
Check your old bank account for the payment
If you cannot access your old account, message us from the section of your account to get your "ACH trace ID" (payment tracking number)
Then call your bank to help find the payment
Sign in to your current bank account or call your bank. Ask if there are any pending payments (credits) coming to your account.
Contact your employer first. Confirm:
Your expected pay date
Your payment method (check or direct deposit)
Your bank account details
Payment details
If your employer cannot help, they can message us from the section of their admin account. Our team can give them detailed information about your payment or any errors.
Q: When will my direct deposit arrive?
A: Banks have until 5 PM local time on payday to put money in your account.
Q: Why don’t I see my payment?
A: Confirm if you see a paystub in your account. If you don't, first reach out to your employer. If you do see a paystub, check your payment method. If you are being paid by direct deposit, check your bank account details.
Q: My bank info changed. What do I do?
A: Update your existing bank information in Gusto. Updating your bank account information allows us to quickly send your failed payment to the correct bank account the next business day.
If you fully remove your old bank account and add a new one (after getting a bank error):
For US employees: We’ll automatically try to resend the payment to the new account.
For all other users: You need to message us from the section of your account to resend your payment.
Q: Who do I contact for help?
A: Contact your employer first. If they cannot help, they can contact Gusto support for you.
