Set up Xero

Learn how to set up your XeroHQ accounting integration and payroll integration below.

Set up the Xero accounting integration

  1. Click the Settings tab.
  2. Click the Integrations tab.
  3. Click Add New Integration.
  4. Next to Xero, click Connect to Xero.
  5. Enter your Xero credentials to get connected.
  6. Click Authorize to allow Xero and Gusto to sync.
  7. Map your chart of accounts.
  8. Select if the payroll sync will run automatically or manually.
  9. Elect whether you would like to automatically or manually approve the Bill in Xero.
    • Note: Gusto will default to approving the Bill automatically.
  10. Choose the specific date you'd like to have appear on the entries Gusto sends to Xero.
  11. Click Save.

Total wages, taxes, benefit deductions/contributions, reimbursements and contractor payments will now sync to your Xero account each time you run payroll.

If you'd like payroll reminders to be sent from Gusto to your XeroHQ dashboard, complete the steps below.

Set up the Xero payroll integration

Once you've set up the Xero payroll integration you'll have access to:

  • Easy navigation
    • Jump from Xero directly into key Gusto experiences such as Dashboard, Run Payroll, and more.
  • Payroll reminders in XeroHQ
    • Xero accountants will be reminded of key Gusto payroll due dates directly in their XeroHQ Notification Center.

Follow the steps below to activate the Xero payroll integration:

  1. Click the Settings tab.
  2. Click the Integrations tab.
  3. Click edit next to "Payroll Integration."
  4. Click Activate.
