Are you an employer looking to try Gusto? Create a Gusto account for your company—it is free to start an account, and you will not pay until you are ready to run payroll.
If you have been paid through Gusto, you can still access your Gusto profile and pay records (like tax documents) even after you leave a company.
A company admin must set up a Gusto account for you. They enter the email that you will use to sign in to Gusto.
If you did not get the welcome email from Gusto, they may be able to send it again.
Ask your employer what personal email they have listed for you in Gusto. If it is an old or wrong email, ask them to update it to your current one. This way, you can access your Gusto pay records, even after leaving the company.
To find the personal email Gusto has on record:
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
Under the Email field, click Forgot email.
Enter the phone number you use for Gusto 2-step verification.
Or, click Try another way.

A contractor
Individual
Business
International
An admin or accountant
A member of an accounting firm
Click Continue.
We will need to verify your identity before we share the email address. Complete all the prompts.
Some users may see different options for how to verify themselves.
Once you know your Gusto email, sign in with your passkey. Or sign in with your password (reset it if you need to) and your 2-step verification code.
All admins and team members can sign in to Gusto using the steps below.
Notes for team members:
If you have left your company: If you have been paid through Gusto, you can still access your Gusto profile and pay records (like tax documents).
If you’re new to Gusto: You can sign in once an employer adds a personal email address to Gusto for you.
To sign in to Gusto in your web browser:
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
This is where everyone signs in (admin, employee, contractor, etc).
Enter the personal email address in your Gusto profile.
If you do not know the email connected to your Gusto account, click Forgot email and follow the prompts. If Forgot email is not an option, you still have a few options for finding the email.
Enter your password.
If you forgot your password, or never set one up, click Forgot password on the sign-in page. Enter your email and click Send link.
Check the box next to “I'm not a robot” (if asked), and click Sign in.
If you are on a trusted device (like your phone or computer), you can check Remember this device to make signing in easier next time.
If someone signs in from a device we do not recognize, we may send an “authorization link” to the email on file. This verifies your identity and keeps your account secure.
If you have set it up, enter your 2-step verification code or passkey.

To sign in to Gusto on the mobile app:
Open the Gusto mobile app.
Enter the personal email address in your Gusto profile.
If you do not know the email connected to your Gusto account, tap Forgot email and follow the prompts. If Forgot email is not an option, you still have a few options for finding the email.
Enter your password.
If you forgot your password, or never set one up, tap Forgot password on the sign-in page. Enter your email and tap Send link.
Tap Sign in.

You can also sign in using your existing Google or Intuit account. Learn more about Google sign-in below.
Once you have linked your Google account, you can use it to sign in to Gusto.
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
You can also find us in the GSuite Marketplace.
Below the main “Sign In” button, click Sign in with Google.
Choose the Google account you would like to use.
Enter your password (if prompted).
Enter your Gusto sign-in email and password.
Click Sign in.
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
Below the main Sign In button, click Sign in with Google.
Select the Google email address linked to your Gusto account.
This will automatically sign you in to your Gusto account.
If you have the Gusto mobile app on your Android device, you can use Google to sign in (not available on the iOS app).
Before you start, your Google account needs to be linked to Gusto. If you originally signed up for Gusto with Google, your accounts are linked. You can also link your accounts from a web browser.
To sign in with Google on the Android version of the Gusto mobile app:
On your Android device, open the Gusto mobile app.
Select Log in with Google, Xero, or Intuit.
Under Other ways to sign in, tap Sign in with Google.
Select your Google account and sign in.
Complete 2-step verification if prompted.
If we're able to match your Google account to your Gusto account, you'll be signed in to the app.
If you see the message "This Google account isn't set up for Gusto sign-in.": In a web browser, go to the Gusto sign-in page and sign in with Google. This will link your accounts. Then reopen your mobile app and repeat these steps.
You cannot link multiple Google accounts to your Gusto account. If you accidentally linked the wrong account, or need to change it, remove your current Google account and then add the correct one.
To disconnect your Google account from Gusto:
Sign in to Gusto.
In the top-right corner of your profile, select your name.
Select My profile.
Go to the Google Sign On section.
Click Unlink Account.
You can sign in to Gusto with a passkey. Use Face ID, Touch ID, or a security key instead of a password. You will not need a 2-step verification code.
Passkeys are designed to be phishing-resistant. Prefer not to use one? Sign in with your email and password instead.
Signing in usually has two parts: your email and password, then a check that it's you, like a 2-step verification code. If you cannot get a code, you may be able to confirm it's you another way, such as with a photo ID and selfie. If you call us, we'll also need to confirm it's you before we can discuss your account. Working through these steps first is the fastest way to get help.
Select the sign-in issue that applies to you:
You can reset your password directly from the sign-in page — no need to contact us first. Here is how:
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
Click Forgot password.
Enter the personal email address in your Gusto profile.
If you are unsure which email we are using, you have a few options to find out. You need to know the email before you can reset your password.
Click Send link.
If that email is connected to a Gusto profile, we will send you a password reset email. If you do not see it right away:
Wait a few minutes.
Check your spam or junk folders.
If the email never arrives, double-check that you are entering the email we have listed in Gusto.
Resetting your password signs you out of every active Gusto session on web and mobile — this can be a useful safety step if you've recently declined a suspicious approval prompt.
The sign-in page has a built-in tool to help you find the email connected to your account. Here is how to use it:
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
Click Forgot email.
Enter the 2-step verification phone number associated with your Gusto account.
If you do not know the 2-step verification number or cannot get codes sent to it, click Try another way.
Click Continue.
If you entered a number we recognize, we will show you the beginning and end of the email we have on file for you.
Click Sign in and use that email to sign in with your password.
If you do not know your password, click Forgot password and we will send a password reset email to the email on file.
Try another way to verify your identity:
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
Click Forgot email.
If you do not know or have the 2-step verification number associated with the account, click Try another way.
Tell us a bit more about your role—employee, contractor, etc—and click Continue.
Answer the verification questions, and click Continue.
If your answers match what we have on file, we will show you the beginning and end of your email address. If you are still unsure, you still have a few options to find out. You need to know the email before you can reset your password.
Click Sign in and use that email to sign in with your password.
If you do not know your password, click Forgot password and we will send a password reset email to the email on file.
If you cannot get past the second step — the code never arrives, you have a new phone or phone number, or your authenticator app is not working — troubleshoot 2-step verification. That article is where we keep every fix, including text, authenticator app, and passkey problems.
If you lost your phone or got a new one, use the steps for a lost or new phone. If you have no phone now, verify your identity with a photo ID and a selfie. If that does not work, you can call us. That section has our phone number and hours.
You only need your email and password. You can reset your password yourself if you do not know it.
A call code is not a 2-step verification code. We will not send or ask for a 2-step verification code when you get your call code. If you are stuck on 2-step verification, follow these troubleshooting steps.
To get your call code:
Go to gusto.com/code.
Enter your email and password. You do not need to finish signing in. If you do not know your email or password, you can find or reset it.
You will see your call code. Say or enter it over the phone.
When you enter your password incorrectly too many times, your account will lock.
Check the email associated with your Gusto account — we will automatically email you with an Unlock My Account button.
If you do not see the email, check your spam and junk folders.
If you do not know what email is connected to your Gusto profile, you have a few options for finding it.
From the email, click Unlock My Account — this will unlock your account, but you will still need to reset your password by:
Heading to this page and selecting I forgot my password, then;
Entering the email address the “Unlock My Account” email went to, then;
Clicking Send link.

Try these steps in order:
Try again. If the passkey prompt closes or you see an error, select Sign in with passkey again. A second try usually works.
Check that this device has a passkey. Gusto saves passkeys on each device. If you set up your passkey on your phone, you may need to scan a QR code with that phone to sign in on a computer.
Update your browser, or try another one. Passkeys work in recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox.
Sign in with your password instead. Select Use password, then enter your password and your 2-step verification code.
Still stuck? Contact us and we will help, including removing a passkey you can no longer use.
Sign in with your password and your 2-step verification code. Then add a new passkey on a device you still use. If you cannot sign in at all, contact us and we will help. We can remove the passkey from our side so you can set up a new one.
Troubleshoot each sign-in requirement one by one:
First, confirm the email address associated with your Gusto profile. You have a few options for finding it.
Once you know your email, you will need your password. If you do not remember your password, or never set one up, reset it:
Go to Gusto's sign-in page.
Click Forgot password.
Enter the personal email address in your Gusto profile.
Enter your 2-step verification code.

If you still cannot get the verification codes, try verifying your identity with our partner Persona.

You may have more than one Gusto profile (or employment type) associated with the same email address. Learn how to switch between profiles once you are signed in.
Save your email for next time. When you sign in, Gusto can save your email on this device. Next time, you pick it instead of typing it.
On the sign-in screen, enter your email and select Next.
Finish signing in. Gusto saves your email on this device.
Gusto saves up to 5 emails per device. If you sign in with a 6th, Gusto removes the one you used least recently.
Go to app.gusto.com, pick the account from your saved list, then sign in with that account's passkey or password.

On the sign-in screen, find the email and select Remove.
Do not see a saved email you expected? You may be on a different device or browser, or your browser may have cleared its cookies. Gusto saves emails on the device, not in your account. Select Use a different email to type it in.
Gusto saves these emails only on the device you are using. If you switch devices or clear your cookies, you type your email again the first time. On a shared computer, remove your email when you finish.
