Troubleshoot signing in

If you're having trouble gaining access to your Gusto account, identify the root issue below and follow the steps to rectify.

Forgot password

If you don't know your password, follow these reset password instructions.

Unsure which email is connected to Gusto

If you're not sure what email is associated with your Gusto account:

  1. Click the Having trouble signing in? link.
  2. Select I forgot my email address.
  3. Choose if you’re an employee, or an admin or accountant.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. If you’ve previously set up 2-step verification in Gusto, enter the phone number associated with your account.
    • If you did not previously set up 2-step verification, any phone numbers that may appear in your Gusto account have yet to be validated and may not be recognized.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Enter the verification code Gusto sent and click Finish.
  8. If we’re able to associate your phone number and retrieve your email, click Sign in to enter your Gusto account.
    • If we’re unable to find a Gusto account associated with the phone number you entered:
      • You can reach out to your employer (current or previous) to confirm the email address or update it on your behalf.
      • You can call us at (628) 246-1969 to help troubleshoot account access issues. View our hours of operation here.

Locked out

If your Gusto account was locked due to an excessive amount of unsuccessful sign in attempts:

  1. Check your email. Gusto will send an email with an Unlock My Account button.
    • If you don't see the email, check your spam and/or junk folders as well. 
    • If you don’t know which email is associated with your Gusto account, follow the instructions in the “Unsure which email is connected to Gusto” section above.
  2. Click the Unlock my Account button.
  3. The account will be unlocked, but you'll still need to reset your password.

2-step verification issues

Authorize a new device

If you're signing in using a new device we're unfamiliar with, to keep your account secure, we'll send you an authorization email. Click the authorization link in that email to finish signing in to Gusto.

No longer at the company

Dismissed employees have lifetime access to their Gusto account as long as there's an email address associated with it. Often times, employers still have the old work email listed on your account. You can:

  • Reach out to your previous employer to update your email address to a personal one; or

  • Call Gusto at (628) 246-1969 so we can verify your identity and update your email to a personal one.
