Paid Family Leave

PFL coverage and claims are exclusively handled through the state agencies. Gusto cannot advise on the amount of coverage an employee may or may not receive from the state. 

If you need to reduce your employee’s salary while they are on PFL you can do so in their employee profile you can schedule a compensation change.

Paid Family Leave (PFL) is a benefit that currently exists in four states to give partial pay to employees for their time off work taken for qualified family leave. Those states are:

Washington DCWashington, and Massachusetts have also enacted PFL laws that will begin to pay out benefits in 2020.

  • Washington DC
    • Employers are required to begin paying into PFL Q2 2019 - first payment due 7/31/19.
    • Benefits do not payout until 2020. 
  • Washington
    • Employees and employers began paying into the program Q1 2019.
    • Benefits do not pay out until 2020.

    • Employees and employers are required to begin paying into PFL Q3 2019.
    • Benefits do not pay out until 2020.
